An obstacle pole trolley is a frame on which obstacle poles are stored and transported. Bar trolleys are used to set up and dismantle obstacles in the riding arena or indoor arena by transporting the trolley with the obstacle bars to the desired location.

We at Alfako sell a pole trolley made of galvanised steel that can be folded up and is optionally equipped with a roof to protect the obstacle poles on the trolley from the weather. The wheel lock supplied prevents the pole trolley from rolling away.

When do you need a trolley for obstacle poles?

You need a trolley for obstacle poles if you want to transport several poles from one place to another. With a pole trolley, you can easily transport obstacle poles from the barn or another storage area to the riding arena to set up a course or individual obstacles.

A pole trolley is also ideal for storing obstacle poles so that the poles are ready for use the next time a course is set up. A trolley for obstacle poles is helpful if you have to move many obstacle poles over long distances in a riding arena or between riding arenas. A pole trolley saves a lot of time and energy.

What trolleys are available for obstacle poles?

There are different variants of trolleys for obstacle poles, such as a pole trolley with or without a roof, a pole trolley with or without a trailer coupling and a pole trolley with different axles.

The different versions of trolleys for obstacle poles are shown below.

Bar trolley with or without roof

Pole trolleys with a roof are useful if the trolley with the obstacle poles is stored outside (e.g. in the riding arena or next to the hall). A roof protects the poles from rain, direct sunlight and snow, as wooden obstacle poles in particular warp and lose their colour when wet. A roof ensures that the obstacle poles on the trolley remain durable.

A pole trolley without a roof is suitable if the trolley and obstacle poles are always stored indoors or in a covered room. A trolley for obstacle poles without a roof is also sufficient if the pole trolley is used exclusively for transporting obstacle poles and not for storing them.

Bar trolley with trailer coupling or standard handle

A pole trolley with trailer coupling is worthwhile if several trolleys are to be driven to the riding arena or indoor arena at the same time and the pole trolleys are transported one behind the other with a towing vehicle. A trailer coupling on the pole trolley is also useful if longer distances are to be travelled between the storage location and the riding arena/riding arena.

Bar trolleys with a standard handle are moved by hand and are suitable when transport distances are short (e.g. within the riding arena or between neighbouring areas). Trolleys for obstacle poles with a standard handle offer greater flexibility and manoeuvrability, as it is easier to manoeuvre by hand in narrow aisles or paths. However, you save time if you do not pull the pole trolley by hand.

Bar trolley with different axles

Bar trolleys are available with different axles, with customers opting for bar trolleys with trailing axles or for bar trolleys with 1 or 2 steering axles. A trolley for obstacle poles with a trailing axle improves driving with the pole trolley through large bends and the trailing axle ensures a smooth, stable position of the load on the pole trolley.

The steering axles (at the front or at both ends) make it easier to manoeuvre the obstacle bar trolley through narrow aisles or bends. Compared to rigid axles, the turning circle is much smaller and precise steering of the trolley (pulling and pushing) is possible.

What are the advantages of trolleys for obstacle poles?

The advantages of trolleys for obstacle poles are that they improve ergonomics, save time, offer more organisation, protect the obstacle poles and provide a mobile solution. Bar trolleys also have a robust design, pneumatic wheels and are equipped with a basket and roof.

The advantages of trolleys for obstacle bars are detailed in the following list.

  • Improve ergonomics: Trolleys for obstacle poles improve ergonomics as they protect the rider's back and make the work of setting up obstacles easier.
  • Save time: Trolleys for obstacle poles save time as they enable the obstacle poles to be transported quickly to the desired location and avoid the need to carry individual poles.
  • Offer more organisation: Bar trolleys offer more order, as they ensure a tidy riding arena, a tidy indoor arena and a tidy barn.
  • Protect the obstacle bars: Trolleys for obstacle poles protect the obstacle poles by keeping the poles off the ground.
  • Represent mobile solution: Trolleys for obstacle poles are a mobile solution because they are made to be mobile and manoeuvrable on large areas of the training ground, the riding arena and the course.
  • Have a robust design: Most bar trolleys are made of galvanised steel and therefore have a robust design with a long service life.
  • Have pneumatic wheels: Bar trolleys have pneumatic wheels that enable easy transport even on uneven terrain.
  • Equipped with basket: Many pole buggies are equipped with a basket that offers additional storage space for obstacle pads or other riding equipment.
  • Roof protects obstacle poles: A roof on the obstacle pole trolley protects the obstacle poles from the weather when the pole trolley is stored outside.
  • Foldable: Many pole trolleys are collapsible, which makes the trolley practical and quick to transport. Folding up the trolley also saves space when not in use.

How many obstacle poles fit on a pole trolley?

Up to 40, 60, 80 or 120 obstacle poles fit on a pole trolley. The more arms the trolley has for obstacle poles and the longer these arms are, the more poles will fit on the trolley. A pole trolley should not be overloaded so that the poles do not fall off during transport.

If the trolley is mainly used to transport a few obstacle poles, a trolley with a capacity of 40 poles is sufficient. However, if you have around 120 obstacle poles that you want to store and transport on the pole trolley, you should purchase a larger trolley.

What do you have to consider when buying a pole trolley?

When buying bar trolleys, you need to make sure that you buy the right size, choose the right axles, select a towbar or standard handle and consider possible accessories.

The following list shows in detail what you need to consider when buying bar trolleys.

  • Right size: When purchasing pole trolleys, choose the right size so that you are able to transport or store the required number of obstacle poles.
  • Which axles: When purchasing the trolley, think about how many and which axles you need to make it easier for you to transport the obstacle poles.
  • Trailer coupling: Assess in advance whether you need a trailer coupling for the bar trolley or whether a standard handle is sufficient for manual towing.
  • Possible accessories: When buying an obstacle pole trolley, think about whether you need accessories for your pole trolley. Accessories for pole carts include, for example, a roof, an extra compartment for riding equipment and a parking brake or wheel lock.
