The obstacle rail, made from hot-dip galvanised black sheet metal, can be used in a variety of ways, is weather-resistant and features a 24 mm keyhole system. We sell 10 metal obstacle rails, each 150 cm long and suitable for use in an outdoor riding arena or indoor riding hall. The rails can be bolted or clipped into place.
An obstacle rail is the keyhole-shaped rail attached to the obstacle stand, into which the obstacle supports for jumping poles are slotted. Jumping rails allow the jumping height to be easily adjusted and ensure that the jumping poles are securely fastened during show jumping.
How long is an obstacle rail?
An obstacle rail is 50 cm, 75 cm or 150 cm long. Plastic keyhole rails are shorter than metal vaulting rails. Most obstacle rails have a keyhole diameter of 24 mm to fit standard pole supports and, like most obstacle stands, are approximately 5 cm wide.
With certain plastic obstacle rails, it is possible to connect several rails together using a plug-in system to extend them along the obstacle and adjust the height of the obstacle bar more flexibly as required. The appropriate rail length is selected according to the number of keyholes required for the pole supports.
How are obstacle rails fixed?
Obstacle rails are attached to the obstacle posts either by screwing them on or slotting them into place. Metal obstacle rails are fitted using screws, whilst plastic keyhole rails can be fitted either using a slot-in system or with screws. The rails designed to be screwed on are fitted with holes suitable for this purpose.
Both the screw-fixing and the plug-in systems allow for quick, secure and flexible fitting of the jump rail to the obstacle, which can be easily removed or replaced if necessary. Thanks to the sturdy construction of the mounting system, the keyhole rails remain robust and durable even with frequent assembly and dismantling.
What materials are obstacle rails made of?
Obstacle rails are made of (glass-fibre-reinforced) plastic or metal such as galvanised steel, aluminium or sheet steel. Obstacle rails are manufactured from very high-quality materials to ensure they are durable. Plastic rails are very easy to maintain, whilst metal rails have a high load-bearing capacity.
Plastic keyhole beams are lightweight and very easy to carry and set up. Metal vaulting beams do not warp when secured, are resistant to UV radiation and are often used at competitions because of their professional appearance.
