Obstacle supports: Accessories for obstacles | Alfako

Obstacle supports are particularly helpful at show jumping competitions and also during training in order to be able to optimally place the obstacle bar on the obstacle stand. You can choose between two materials and different depths.

We explain below what exactly obstacle pads are, what they are made of, how deep the shells are and approximately how much obstacle pads cost.

What are obstacle pads?

Obstacle supports are trays that are hooked into the obstacle stands. The obstacle poles can then be placed ideally on the rests. Here, obstacle pads are of different depths so that the poles can fall down either more easily or more difficult.

Especially for high or long jumps at tournaments, there are special safety pads that ensure more safety when jumping. These are prescribed at tournaments, especially for built-over water ditches and high jumps. Safety pads give way when horses come up against them and thus both the pole and the horse will land safely.

What material are obstacle pads made of?

Obstacle supports are made of either plastic or metal. Plastic has the advantage that it is cheap, very light and waterproof. The disadvantage is that they wear out quickly and are therefore not durable. Metal obstacle pads are more expensive, but they are more hard-wearing and durable. However, metal is very sensitive to dirt and requires thorough maintenance.

Plastic obstacle pads are often in different colours to make it easier to see the different formwork depths of the pads.

What is the formwork depth for obstacle supports?

The shell depth for obstacle supports is between 18 and 30 mm. The deeper the shell, the more difficult it is for the poles to fall out of them, which is why a depth of 18 mm is suitable for the upper pole. This ensures that the horse cannot injure itself if it breaks the obstacle. Deeper shells can be selected for the lower poles.

What do obstacle pads cost?

Obstacle pads usually cost between €4.50 and €40. The price varies so much because the costs of the two materials are very different. The obstacle pads made of metal are considerably more expensive than the pads made of plastic. In addition, it is important to distinguish whether it is a conventional obstacle pad or a safety pad.

The obstacle pads from Alfako

Our obstacle pads from Alfako are made of galvanised metal and are available in either the "Classic" or "Flat" version. We sell the obstacle pads in packs of 20.

With a shell depth of 25 mm, the "Classic" obstacle support is particularly suitable for low obstacles in training.

The "Flat" obstacle support ensures that the bar falls down if the horse touches it lightly, thus preventing injuries.
