An obstacle stand is known by several names. On the one hand, an obstacle stand is a frame for the safe storage of obstacle poles and, on the other hand, an obstacle stand is a carrier for obstacle poles for setting up obstacles in show jumping.
Both versions of the obstacle stands are ideal for regularly setting up and dismantling courses or obstacles in the riding arena or indoor arena. The obstacle poles are placed on the stand as an obstacle for show jumping. The obstacle poles are then placed on the stand as a storage option when the poles are not needed.
Obstacle stands are available in different types, heights, materials and prices and are a useful storage option for show jumpers. A robust jumping pole holder will not fall over when poles are placed on it or taken down and therefore ensures safe storage. We will go into more detail about the obstacle stand as a storage option for obstacle poles below.
When do you use obstacle stands?
Obstacle stands are used to set up obstacles and courses at show jumping events or for everyday training. An obstacle stand is available in different designs and sizes so that it is possible to store different numbers of obstacle poles on it.
With obstacle stands, it is possible to build and dismantle obstacles in no time at all. If you opt for low obstacle stands, even children are able to set up and dismantle obstacles for their riding lesson themselves. Obstacle stands are available either with stable feet as a double-sided transport frame or as a single-sided frame for wall mounting.
What types of obstacle stands are there?
There are 4 different types of obstacle stands: the obstacle stand with feet, the obstacle stand for wall mounting, the obstacle stand with wheels and the obstacle stand as a bar rack. The following list explains these types of obstacle stands in detail.
- Obstacle stand with feet: Obstacle stands with feet can be placed anywhere and have the advantage that they stand upright on their own. There is no need to fix them to the wall or the ground, as the high dead weight of the obstacle stand ensures maximum stability. They have stirrups on both sides, which is why they offer more space for jumping poles for horses.
- Obstacle stand for wall mounting: Obstacle stands for wall mounting are space-saving as they can be attached to the wall anywhere. Wall-mounted obstacle stands are ideal for installation on the wall of the riding arena, for example. Obstacle poles are then stored in the arena and do not have to be carried for long distances.
- Obstacle stand with wheels: Obstacle stands with wheels offer easy transport of obstacle poles from one place to another. Obstacle stands with wheels are stored in a safe place and then pushed into the riding arena or riding arena as required. The storage compartments on the obstacle stand are used to store and transport obstacle pads.
- Obstacle stand as bar rack: An obstacle stand as a pole rack is a low, robust rack that can hold up to 30 obstacle poles. Due to its small size, the obstacle stand as a pole rack takes up very little space and is also suitable for easy access for small riders.
How high are obstacle stands?
Obstacle stands are between 1.20 metres and 1.60 metres high. The low obstacle stands with a height of 1.20 metres are suitable for storing around 30 poles and the higher ones with a height of 1.60 metres are suitable for storing around 80 poles. The height of the obstacle stands differs depending on the type of obstacle stand.
A jump pole holder with feet has more storage space than a single-sided rack, as it has brackets on both sides. Obstacle stands for wall mounting usually have a smaller size and therefore a smaller capacity for obstacle poles. Depending on the type of obstacle stand, only one obstacle bar or up to 10 at a time can fit on one bracket.
What material are obstacle stands made of?
Obstacle stands are made of hot-dip galvanised metal. The hot-dip galvanised metal is very robust, has a high level of stability and is not susceptible to rust due to the galvanisation. Metal obstacle stands are weatherproof and durable, making them ideal for indoor and outdoor use.
The material of the obstacle stand offers a high degree of flexibility, which is why some obstacle stands can be folded up. Depending on the design of the stand, the feet can be folded up and either hung on the wall or transported from A to B without any problems. Galvanised metal ensures that the plastic or wooden obstacle poles are not damaged.
Occasionally, wooden obstacle stands are also available. Obstacle stands made of wood are chosen if you appreciate a rustic and natural look. Wooden obstacle stands are also ideal for building yourself. To do this, screw the required number of boards together to form an obstacle stand and attach thick screws to each end to prevent the obstacle poles from rolling down.
How much does an obstacle stand cost?
An obstacle stand costs between 150 euros and 1200 euros. The exact price of the obstacle stand depends on the height of the stand and the number of stirrups. Low, single-sided obstacle stands with only 3 stirrups cost less than high, double-sided obstacle stands with 8 stirrups.
When buying obstacle stands, please note that you will have to pay high shipping costs due to their size. In addition to the above-mentioned price, the shipping costs are between 70 and 100 euros. Most obstacle stands are delivered without obstacle poles, which is why the price increases by a further 20 to 85 euros per pole.
