Bar trolley for obstacle bars | Alfako

Especially in show jumping, obstacles have to be set up and taken down regularly in the riding arena or indoor arena. However, transporting the obstacle poles to the desired location is a difficult act. This is where pole trolleys can help.

When to use a pole trolley, what types of pole trolleys are available, how many obstacle poles fit on it and what to consider when buying a pole trolley, we explain here.

When is a pole trolley used?

A pole trolley is used when you want to transport your obstacle poles from A to B. It is the best way to transport the poles from the barn or other storage area to the riding arena and indoor riding arena. This way you can optimally transport the poles from the barn or another storage place to the riding arena and indoor riding arena in order to be able to set up a course or individual obstacles.

A pole trolley is also ideal for simply storing the obstacle poles so that they are ready for use the next time they are needed.

Which bar trolleys are available?

Bar trolleys come in various designs, which we will list for you below:

With or without roof

Some pole trolleys are available with a roof that you can extend with a Velcro protective cover. This way, the obstacle poles are optimally protected from direct sunlight and rain, which allows them to be stored outside. This ensures that the obstacle poles are more durable.

With trailer hitch or standard handle

Depending on the size of the pole trolley or how many poles you are transporting and the way you want to move it, you can choose a pole trolley with a trailer hitch or a standard handle. This allows you to move the pole trolley either with a towing vehicle or by hand.

With different axes

You can also choose between different axles. For example, there are bar trolleys with trailing axles for weight relief and 1 or 2 steering axles for easy manoeuvrability.

How many obstacle poles fit on a pole trolley?

Between 40 and 120 obstacle poles fit on a pole trolley. Here it is important to consider whether you want to buy the trolley mainly for storage or for transport. If you want to use the trolley mainly for transporting obstacle poles, you only need a trolley with space for 40 poles.

However, if you have up to 120 obstacle poles that you want to store on the pole trolley, you should purchase a larger trolley. At this point, how about a Obstacle stand? These have no tyres and are ideal for storing obstacle poles.

What do you have to consider when buying a pole trolley?

When buying pole trolleys, you need to consider the following things:

  • Decide on the right size of pole trolley so that you can transport or store the desired number of obstacle poles.
  • Think about how many and which axles you need to make it easier for you to transport the poles.
  • Assess in advance whether you need a trailer hitch or whether a standard handle will suffice.
  • Think about whether you need accessories for your pole buggy. Here, for example, there is a roof, an extra compartment for riding equipment such as obstacle pads and a parking brake or wheel lock.

How much do pole trolleys cost?

Bar trolleys cost between 1200 € and 2800 €. The price depends on various factors such as the size of the pole trolley, the desired axles and the accessories chosen. Large pole trolleys with a roof, a trailer hitch, several axles and all accessories therefore cost more than a small pole trolley, without a roof, with a standard handle and no accessories.
