How big are feed carts?

Feed wagons are approximately 1000 to 2100 mm in length, 500 to 1000 mm in width and 650 to 900 mm in height. The capacity of a feed wagon varies between 140 and 700 litres. Depending on their size and capacity, feed carts weigh between 30 and 90 kg.

Feed trolleys offer a large storage space of several hundred litres and therefore provide sufficient space for storing oats, compound feed, hay and other feedstuffs. What types of feed trolleys are there?

There are different types of feed wagons, such as towed, stationary and self-propelled feed wagons, as well as feed wagons with different equipment. The feed wagons with different equipment have, for example, a lid, partition walls or a mineral container.

• Drawn feed wagon: A towed feed wagon is attached to a tractor, for example, and used on different areas and farms. Towed feed wagons are particularly suitable for uneven terrain or longer distances between the feeding area and storage location.
• Stationary feed trolley: A stationary feed wagon stands at a fixed location and is often part of an automatic feeding system. In most cases, stationary feed wagons have a very large capacity and are therefore particularly suitable for large farms.
• Self-propelled feed wagon: Self-propelled feed carts have their own drive and therefore save time through autonomous movement. A self-propelled feed wagon can also be used in narrow stable aisles and is also suitable for travelling longer distances.
• Feed trolley with lid: If there is a possibility of dirt, dust or bacteria getting into the feed at the later storage location of the feed trolley, you should opt for a feed trolley with a lid. Dirt and dust get into the feed wagon especially if the feed is stored openly in the wagon for a longer period of time.
• Feed trolley with partition wall: A feed trolley with a partition wall is ideal for animal owners when different types of feed or feed rations need to be transported and distributed at the same time, but separately. Feed trolleys with partitions are mainly used in large stables with several animals.
• Feed wagon with mineral container: Feed trolleys with mineral containers are suitable for storing and transporting mineral feed separately from other types of feed in the feed trolley. The separate mineral container on the feed trolley enables targeted and individualised mineral dosing for each animal.

The capacity of the feed trolley is decided depending on how many animals are to be fed and how much feed is to be transported.
