If you want to build a snaffle holder yourself, you can do this in 3 different ways: with hooks, horseshoes or round timbers. Snaffle holders are ideal storage places for snaffles, halters, ropes, auxiliary reins, but also riding caps or jackets.
We present the three variants and show you how you can recreate them, what materials you need and what you need to look out for.
You can build your own snaffle holders by attaching hooks, horseshoes or round timbers next to each other on a wooden strip. At this point, you can decide for yourself how many hanging options you prefer and must use a correspondingly long wooden strip.
For the first variant of how to build a bridle rack yourself, you first need a wooden board, the desired number of hooks, a cordless screwdriver and screws in the number of hooks plus two screws for fastening in the tack room or saddle locker. Clear varnish and a brush are also recommended to make the wood more durable.
The wood should first be coated with clear varnish. Once this is completely dry, the hooks can be marked on the wood at the preferred position with a pencil and pre-drilled without hooks. Use a drill bit that is one size smaller than the screws for pre-drilling. Don't forget to drill a hole on each side so that you can hang the bridle holder later.
Now you can attach the hooks to the respective positions on the wooden board and finally hang them up in the place of your choice.
To realise the next variant, you will need one or more horseshoes, a wooden board, long sleeve screws with nuts, a steel brush, a drill, a spanner, a hammer and two screws for the wall mounting.
Firstly, you should remove all dirt from the horseshoe with a steel brush. Now drill holes on one side of the horseshoe and insert the long sleeve bolts and nuts into them. Next, drill two holes in the wooden board in which the horseshoe is secured with the sleeve screws using the drill.
The protruding screws on the back of the board are fastened with nuts. The nuts on the iron are also tightened with a spanner. The last step is to drill a hole so that the bridle holder can be attached to the wall with screws.
For the third variant, you will need a wooden board about 5 cm thick, round timbers in the number of desired brackets, 2 screws per round timber, 2 screws for the wall mounting, clear varnish, a brush, sandpaper and a drill. Please note that the screws for the logs must be longer than the wooden board.
The circumference of the logs should fit on the wooden bar. The length of the logs depends on how many bridles, ropes and auxiliary reins you want to store on one holder.
Start building the snaffle holder by sanding all the wood and then coat the wood with clear varnish. Allow it to dry completely and arrange the round timbers on the wooden board in the way you want your snaffle holder to look later. Mark the positions and then attach the round timbers to the board from behind using two screws.
Once all the round timbers are attached, you can fix the snaffle holder in the tack room to the wall with two screws. If you only want to build one snaffle holder yourself, you can of course also use a shorter wooden board with just one round timber.
