What is a transport trolley for the stable?

A transport trolley for the stable is a frame for transporting loads, materials, feed, tools or other objects in the stable area. Most transport trolleys consist of a robust frame on wheels, with a drawbar or practical handles for transport.

What parts does a stable transport trolley consist of?

A stable transport trolley consists of various parts such as a base frame, wheels, a trailer coupling, brakes, grids and one or more axles. Transport trolleys are also available in different colours.

• Basic framework: The basic frame consists of a loading platform and a drawbar or two handles for easy manoeuvring. The base frame is either made entirely of galvanised steel or is made of steel and robust wood.
• Wheels: With transport trolleys, you can choose between 2 and 4 wheels to adapt the trolley to the respective load capacity. The tyres are solid rubber, plastic or pneumatic tyres, depending on requirements and area of use. 
• Trailer coupling: Some models of the transport trolley offer the option of a trailer coupling, a bicycle trailer coupling or a ball head coupling. The transport trolley is then attached to a vehicle, making it easier to transport the items.
• Brake: If required, the transport trolleys are equipped with a brake to ensure safety during loading and unloading. This is a parking brake on the drawbar or a foot brake.
• Grid: Depending on requirements, transport trolleys are fitted with 2 to 4 grids or walls to secure and protect the load. These are attached either at the front and rear only or on all sides of the trolley.
• Axles: Models with two axles or one steering axle are available for optimum manoeuvrability of the transport trolley. This ensures smooth transport organisation.

What types of transport trolleys are available for the stable?

There are 6 different types of transport trolleys for stables. These are categorised into feed trolleys, manure trolleys, hay and straw trolleys, water trolleys, tool and material trolleys and trolleys for transporting animals. 

These 6 types of transport trolleys are presented in more detail below. 

• Feed trolley: Feed trolleys are designed for transporting animal feed. Feed carts are available in various designs, including manual feed carts that are pushed by hand and electric feed carts that are motorised and facilitate feeding in larger stables. 
• Dung trolley: Manure wagons are used to transport manure, waste and litter. There are manure wagons that are pushed by hand for smaller quantities and motorised versions that can handle larger loads. 
• Hay and straw wagons: Hay and straw wagons are designed to transport loose hay bales or straw. They often have high side walls or supports to hold the transported goods securely. 
• Water truck: Water trolleys are equipped with a water tank and are used to transport water within the barn. There are manual water trolleys for smaller quantities and motorised versions for larger volumes. 
• Tool and material trolley: Tool and material trolleys are versatile transport trolleys that are used to transport tools and materials within the barn. 
• Transport trolley for animals: Transport trolleys for animals are motorised and specially designed for transporting small animals within the barn or over short distances to another barn. 

How big are transport trolleys for the stable?

Transport trolleys for the stable are between 100 cm and 250 cm long and between 80 cm and 125 cm wide. The larger the transport trolleys are, the more load capacity they have and the more robust the tyres are. In most cases, transport trolleys have a load capacity of between 300 and 1500 kg.

How do you maintain a trolley?

You maintain a transport trolley by cleaning it regularly to remove dirt, feed residues and manure from the loading area. This prevents rust, mould and other damage to the trolley. Clean the trolley thoroughly after each use, especially if it has come into contact with wet objects.

Another important aspect of maintenance is the regular inspection of the wheels and axles. These should be checked for wear and damage and lubricated if necessary to ensure smooth movement. Wheels with pneumatic tyres should also be checked regularly for the correct pressure.

The loading area and the side walls of the wagon must be inspected for cracks and weak points, especially if the wagon is transporting heavy loads. Any damage should be repaired immediately to avoid major problems.

Maintenance of the battery or motor is essential for motorised or electric transport trolleys. The battery should be charged regularly and checked for corrosion. The motor must be maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Finally, it is advisable to store the trolley in a dry, sheltered area when it is not in use. This protects it from the weather and extends its service life. Regular cleaning, maintenance and proper storage will ensure that the transport trolley remains functional and reliable for a long time.

Before buying, think about which castors you want on your transport trolley. Solid rubber tyres have a high load-bearing capacity, while plastic tyres are very durable and inexpensive. Pneumatic tyres have the advantage that they have good suspension and can therefore balance out uneven surfaces better. Finally, you should consider whether you need accessories such as a trailer coupling, brakes, bars or walls.
